Cancer rates have increased 80% for people under the age of 50 for three decades, a new study finds | KHON2

I am Rukh Yusuf, Clinical Pharmacist, also specialized in Total Parenteral Nutrition and Bone Marrow Transplant. I have  worked in the Pediatric Oncology unit of a public hospital. The mission of this blog is to bring to you the real-life stories of child patients suffering from cancer. Cancer is still a difficult disease to handle and treat. However, when it strikes the children, some so young that they cannot even speak, their agony is beyond expression and words. Let us pray especially for children suffering from cancer for early and complete remission. May Allah shower His Merciful Blessings upon them. Aameen.

A Dreamer in Difficult Times: The Journey of an 8-Year-Old with ALL

Eight-year-old Fahad, with his bright eyes and infectious smile, he’s like any other child his age, filled with dreams and enthusiasm. But Fahad’s journey is different; he is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. While he faces challenges, his dreams and resilience shine through.
Facing the Challenges
Living with ALL is not easy. Each day brings new struggles for Fahad. He feels weak and tired from the treatments. Each visit to the hospital is long and uncomfortable. He often has to undergo blood tests and receive chemotherapy, which makes him feel sick. The energy he once had to run around and play is often replaced by exhaustion.
All the bright colors of childhood are sometimes overshadowed by the gray clouds of uncertainty and pain. There are days when Fahad feels pain, and some nights are spent tossing and turning, unable to find comfort. He misses playing with his friends or riding his bike down the street. It’s hard for him to watch his friends enjoy these activities while he feels confined by his illness.
The Weight of Uncertainty
One of the hardest parts of living with ALL for Fahad is the uncertainty about the future. Will he ever be normal like all other children? Such questions are heavy for anyone, especially a child.
Sometimes, he feels scared. He wonders if the hospital has become his second home. Despite the pain and anxiety, Fahad tries to stay strong, but it’s not always possible. The uncertainty looms like a shadow.

A Heart Full of Dreams
Despite these challenges, Fahad holds some dream for his future. He wishes to be a scientist one day. He finds inspiration in finding cure for all sick children.
When he’s feeling well enough, Fahad spends hours reading science books. He learns about the human body and different diseases. His curiosity fuels his dream; he wants to understand how things work so he can help others. He hopes to help children like himself who are struggling with their health.
Moments of Joy
Fahad’s family does everything they can to create happy memories, even during tough times. They often watch movies together or have arts and crafts sessions to keep his spirits high.
Fahad is lucky to have a strong support system. His family, friends, and teachers rally around him. They encourage him, keep him company during hospital visits, and remind him that he is not alone.
Every bit of encouragement matters. It helps Fahad believe in his dream and has taught him to appreciate the little things in life. Whether it’s laughter with family or a good book, he learns to cherish those moments.
Embracing the Journey
Fahad’s cancer journey is filled with ups and downs, but his spirit remains unbroken. He teaches us that even in the face of challenges, it’s essential to hold onto our dreams.
As Fahad continues to fight, he shows us the power of hope. He proves that no matter how tough life can get, our dreams can light the way. And who knows? With determination and support, one day, the boy who dreams of being a scientist might just fulfill that dream and help others heal, just as those who care for him are doing today.
Prayers for young Fahad and his family, May Allah grant him health all his life, May his cancer never comes back. Aameen
Lots of prayers for all sick children to recover quickly and never experience their illnesses again. May they lead happy and healthy lives once more. Aameen.
